About The Indian Queen:
A stunning spectacle colour and vision, Sellars brings Purcell's unfinished opera to the stage in a way that has never previously been possible. The composer's mesmerising score is reworked around a new text with the inclusion of a number of his most ravishing religious anthems.
Telling the story of the initial confrontation between Europeans and the Mayans of the New World, this kaleidoscopic production brings together vibrant set designs from the LA-based graffiti artist Gronk, contemporary dance sequences, and powerful spoken word with some of Purcell's most mesmerising music.
Conducted by baroque specialist Laurence Cummings, the cast includes the exceptional Julia Bullock, for whom Sellars created the central role, leading British lyric soprano Lucy Crowe, American tenor Noah Stewart, and a significant role for ENO's 'world-class' Chorus (WhatsOnStage).
