Michael Clemens, PIIE nonresident senior fellow, discusses the latest economic research on alternative approaches to regulate immigration pressure at the US southwest border. He reviews a range of influential proposals, from mass deportation to expanded opportunities for lawful migration.
Jonathan Portes, professor of economics and public policy at King’s College London, presents recent work on migration to the United Kingdom since Brexit and the pandemic, examining the radical shift in both migration numbers and source countries and the associated sectoral and labor market implications. He also discusses recent policy changes and prospects after the UK election and the implications for the United States from the UK experience.
Warwick J. McKibbin, PIIE nonresident senior fellow, presents ongoing research on modeling how restrictions on immigration proposed by former President Trump would affect the US economy.
