Gamelan Pesel is a new gamelan created by I Wayan Arik Wirawan in 2013 when he was at the end of his studies at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Denpasar, Bali. The Pesel gamelan, which was inspired by the diatonic tone, was conceptualized from two Balinese gamelan ensembles, namely the semar pegulingan gamelan and selonding gamelan. This is what became the forerunner of the name Gamelan Pesel, where pesel itself is a combination of two words, namely the words pegulingan and selonding. The combination of the semar pegulingan and selonding gamelan produces a combination that is classic, melancholic, and dynamic at the same time. In general, gamelan pesel uses iron and bronze plates as gamelan blades or leaves, which are made by iron and bronze craftsmen from various regions. (Source: revolutionary.go.id)
