How to correctly and accurately calculate the width of fabric for beautiful curtains in the bedroom, living room, kitchen or children's room. I have divided this topic into several separate subtopics to make it easier for you to further understand this issue on your own.
I will tell you about the width of short curtains, colored in a certain pattern, combined complex models, as well as on eyelets, loops and complex assemblies on curtain tape in other videos. And today I will help you calculate the required amount of fabric for plain curtains and floor-length curtains.
At the same time, we take into account that the height of future curtains is from 2.40 to 2.60 meters, provided that the height of the fabric from the manufacturer, which you will buy yourself, is from 2.80 to 3 meters.
You only need to know two measurements to correctly calculate the required amount of fabric for curtains.
The first (designation L) is the length of the cornice, which is measured using a centimeter tape or a folding meter;
At the same time, I will immediately say here that you should buy a cornice that is at least 25-30 cm longer on each side of the window width if there are free wall openings to the left and right of it.
Thus, with the curtains open to the side, you will be able to leave the window as free as possible for daylight to enter the room. This is especially important for small windows, up to 1.80 wide. A little later, we will make calculations for different cornice lengths.
The second measurement (designated H) is the length (height) of the future curtain. The size of this measurement depends on the curtain model (the curtain can be to the floor, to the windowsill, ¾ of the wall height, etc.)
The size of this measurement is also affected by the type of cornice and the way the top of the curtain is processed.
To measure the height of floor-length curtains, you need to hook the edge of the tape measure onto the hook on which the curtain will be attached. We will talk about this in more detail in other videos. And today we are talking about the splendor of the curtains, taking into account the gathering coefficient of the curtain tape.
It can be from 1.5 to 3.5 meters.
Remember the following rule:
if you are sewing curtains from very thin fabric: organza, voile, mesh, without a pattern - you will need fabric in width 2.50, or even three and a half times the length of the cornice itself.
For medium-density fabrics: chiffon, tulle on mesh, thin fabrics with a pattern - you need from two to two and a half meters per meter of cornice for beautiful drapery. For dense fabrics: velvet, taffeta, linen, gabardine - one and a half to two times. No more. And depending on the density of the fabric, select the curtain tape.
