SAIGA-9 Unboxing and Full Review
Friends, we have a new unboxing video on our channel with a full historical and technical overview of the Saiga-9 rifled carbine chambered for the 9x19 Luger pistol cartridge. There's no disassembly to keep the already long video short. We'll disassemble and clean it/unpack it next time.
The Saiga 9 semi-automatic carbine is based on the 9mm PP-19-01 Vityaz-SN submachine gun. Thanks to its use of the 9x19 cartridge, it can be used at pistol shooting ranges. More precisely, the line of its progenitors is roughly as follows: AK-41 - AKM - AK-74 - AK-105/AKS74U - PP-19 "Bizon" - PP19-01 "Vityaz" - Saiga-9. To avoid "throwing the bullet," I didn't mention the Sturmgewehr-44.
The carbine's automatic operation is based on the principle of blowback. What does this mean? It means that as the bolt moves forward, under the force of the recoil springs, the bolt chambers a round from the magazine and closes the barrel. When the gun fires, the propellant gases press against the bottom of the cartridge case. The bolt moves rearward with the cartridge case, but since its mass is significantly greater than the bullet's, the bolt movement by the time the bullet leaves the barrel is insignificant, and the cartridge case is not destroyed by the propellant gases. After the bullet leaves the barrel, the bolt moves rearward by inertia. As it moves rearward, the bolt extracts the cartridge case from the chamber using the ejector and ejects it from the receiver using the ejector. Simply put, it's a Kalashnikov, but it fires like a PPSh.
The 9×19mm Parabellum is a pistol cartridge with a rimless, cylindrical case with a slight taper. It was developed in 1902 by Austrian gunsmith Georg Luger for the 9mm Luger Pistol (P08, Parabellum, Borchardt-Luger), a semi-automatic pistol he designed in 1898 and introduced in 1903.
The name "Parabellum" comes from the Latin proverb "Si vis pacem, para bellum" ("If you want peace, prepare for war").
The cartridge is also known as the 9×19mm Luger or 9×19 Para. Abroad, the simple designation "9mm" most often refers to this cartridge.
