Hey Pizza lovers! I have a recipe here you absolutely cannot resist! Double decker deep dish Chicago style pizza. So cheesy and delicious!
For the pizza dough:
1 ½ tbsp white sugar
⅔ tsp salt
280 ml warm water
2 tsp active dry yeast
2 tbsp oil
450 g flour
For toppings
1 can crushed tomatoes
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp olive oil
½ tsp salt
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
sliced salami or pepperoni
basil / garlic optional
Combine warm water, oil, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Sprinkle yeast over the warm sugar water.
Add half of the flour to the yeast water, and stir until no dry spots remain. Stir in the remaining flour. When the dough has pulled together, knead it for about 8 minutes until it becomes more elastic.
Lightly oil a large bowl, put the dough in it, cover with a light cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in volume, about half an hour.
Preheat the oven to 220°C/ 430°F. Turn out the dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into 2 equal pieces. Roll one piece into a circle. Place it in a greased deep dish. Sprinkle the dough with cheese.
Place another circle of dough on top and press the edges together to seal. Cut several holes in top crust. Spread the sauce evenly over the top crust. Add basil, salami, or pepperoni. You can use any sort of topping variation.
Bake pizza in the oven about 45 minutes.
As you can see, the main pizza elements are still there — crust, sauce, cheese, toppings — but they are stacked in a different order in a deep pan, and baked for a long time, like a pie.
Enjoy!
