Dorico gives us advanced control over our sample playback with add-ons and conditions. These tools help our hybrid scores playback with more realism and control without us having to do too much automation.
We can control things like portamento and vibrato with automation and playback techniques. But, using add-ons for this is more reliable when setup inside of a reusable expression map. Once we get things tweaked correctly, we don't ever have to think about it again... we're getting closer to what I call the "uninterrupted creative flow"!
Conditions allow us a way to tell Dorico which articulation to use based on note length. Think of this as an automatic way to get Dorico to play short notes with a tighter articulation and longer notes with an expressive articulation based on our preferences.
I'll demo how both of these features work, what they sound like and how to get them setup in your expression map in this video... let's get going!
