Roadside battle. How Bauyrzhan Momyshuly saved his soldiers. Volokolamsk Highway.
During the Battle of Moscow, Panfilov's Senior Lieutenant Bauyrzhan Momyshuly commanded a battalion in the 316th Rifle Division (Panfilov Division). Surrounded, Momyshuly's battalion fought a roadside battle near the Volokolamsk highway, but Bauyrzhan, a Kazakh, used his wits, and thanks to him, none of his soldiers were killed. The Panfilov Division participated in the Battle of Moscow during the Great Patriotic War, and it was, without exaggeration, the division that saved the capital. Bauyrzhan Momyshuly, a Kazakh, co-wrote a story about this event, "Volokolamsk Highway," with the writer Alexander Bek. The roadside battle is one of the chapters in this book. The history of World War II is very instructive, and Panfilov's Bauyrzhan Momyshuly was later awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union title.
