Hi there! Here is a simple tutorial showing you how I achieve a white background for my jewellery product pictures. This technique will work with anything you photograph on a white background- invariably, the resulting pictures have backgrounds that aren't bright enough, so here's how to fix that without having to spend anything on making a light-box, or fancy software.

GIMP is 100% FREE software, it's highly comparable to Photoshop in terms of what it can do. I swear by it, and use it often. You can download GIMP here: https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Though I use version 2.10.6, there have been other releases since, and all of them should work with the techniques in this tutorial. It is important to note that earlier versions of GIMP might not include the "exposure" feature, which is one of the techniques I use, though the older versions will still have brightness/contrast, and the overlay method.

The initial pictures were done using a simple white tile as the background, situated by my back door, which is where I get the best light. You'll have to experiment with location to achieve the best light wherever you are. I don't photograph outside with the white tiles because the reflections get pretty crazy- it's all about finding a balance that fits you.

Camera used: Samsung android smartphone with a 13 megapixel camera, though of course the techniques in this tutorial will work with any camera.
