Steam Whistle electronics project for kids to build
[Issue 45] For this month's kids basics project, we make a fun steam whistle that can liven up kids' games or playtime.
To make our frequencies, we use five of the six units in a 40106 Hex Schmitt Trigger IC. A Schmitt Trigger is a special arrangement of comparator, with a bunch of the components we need already integrated into it, helping keep our part count down and board layout neat.
We’ll use the LM386 amplifier for sound output.
All of it is powered by a 9V battery and fits in a standard breadboard.
