Lioenel Messi has finally won a world cup with Argentina! This victory marks the third world cup win for the country, and the first world cup win for Messi.
This was not an easy road to victory. Messi has had a history of going to multiple Copa America and World Cup finals only to be turned away in the end. The Argentina national teams last Copa America was their first ever win with Messi, and this came after their last appearance where Argentina lost in the final for the fourth time in a row. The previous loss was so painful for Messi he actually retired from international futbol in 2016.
Following the 2021 Copa America win, Argentina would go on to win the Finalissima against Italy in 2022. And now, in December 2022, Argentina's national team was able to overcome their past mistakes, shrug off their past failures, put their best effort forward and win a world cup.
