How To Make Leather And How To Get Clay In Stranded Deep
For leather you need rawhide, either from a shark or a boar, and a tanning rack. While holding your rawhide, stand next to the tanning rack and hold C for quick craft. Leather will come up as a craft-able item.
For clay, you need a pickaxe (as far as I can tell)
the mineable clay resources are found in the water, just off the islands. They are far enough out that sharks can reach you so be careful.
