In Healdsburg, California, a wine country town north of San Francisco, Jenine Alexander decided not to sit idly by and built her own home, after discovering that the median home price in Healdsburg is half a million dollars.
It's a small, well-designed, mobile home, built on a trailer for quick movement, with a cool interior in the summer, while easily achieving the opposite result in the winter.
With the help of lumber and other materials obtained from scrap metal and repairs in the area, Jenine Alexander, who has worked in the construction industry in the past, was able to build her home with her own labor and a financial investment of less than $3,500.
