Summer, sun, beach: Germans' three vacation wishes aren't only fulfilled far from home! Classic camping in Germany is increasingly becoming a travel trend for 2020. Especially city dwellers are flocking to tent and campsites, many of which are fully booked. But how does camping work during the coronavirus pandemic, with social distancing rules and hygiene regulations? Focus TV took a look around two large campsites in East and West Germany: the so-called "royal" Sanssouci campsite near Potsdam and what is probably Germany's oldest campsite on the Rhine, near Cologne. There, friends Anna and Luisa want to experience the freedom of camping in a tent for the first time – quite unlike Carmen and Harry, who have been regulars for twelve years with their luxury caravan. In Potsdam, where campsite owner Dieter Lübberding greets his guests in true style with a tricorn hat, the Bauer family from Berlin is staying. For their three children, life in a tent is pure adventure. Simone Pokrandt sometimes feels the same way, but in a different way: As an inspector, she checks the safety of campsites on behalf of the ADAC (German Automobile Club). What she discovers there often leaves vacationers truly astonished.
