Letter Xx with letter formation, letter sound & motion, words that begin and end with the /x/ sound, and sing aloud with Frog Street's Foxy Roxy (to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star).

Can your child think of more words that have the /x/ sound?  Is the sound at the beginning, middle, or end?

Can your child rhyme with Ox?  Axe?  Six?  Nonsense words are okay!

Kids LOVE the Fox counting rhyme (attached) that is based on the "Five Little Monkeys hanging from the tree, teasing Mr. Alligator 'can't catch me!'" rhyme.  This is a great way to practice the /x/ sound, count objects, and count down from 10.  Try using sidewalk chalk to draw the 10 mice on the driveway (write the numbers so the child is seeing the numerals), then your child can be the fox pouncing on each mouse!  When they pounce, they make the /x/ sound.

10 little mice
Nibbling behind a tree
Along came Mr. Fox
As quiet as can be
and... (pounce!)
A mouse for me!

9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Zero mice
Nibbling behind a tree
But here's Mr. Fox
As full as can be!

The xylophone craft is a good way to practice ordering from biggest to smallest.  If you do red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple, you can also review the order of the colors of the rainbow.  If you use a brown X for the xylophone, gray strikers, and black balls on the strikers, you are reviewing every color on our assessment.
