How to Delete Rows or Columns in Excel Using Only the Keyboard: Quick Shortcuts
If you want to be faster in Excel and stop using the mouse to delete rows and columns, this video shows you the most effective keyboard shortcuts. The most direct method is to select the entire row by pressing Shift + Spacebar, or the entire column with Ctrl + Spacebar. Once selected, press Ctrl + the minus sign (Ctrl + -) and Excel will open a dialog box to confirm the deletion of the entire row or column. If you only want to delete specific cells, you can use Ctrl + the minus sign after selecting the range, and then choose the option to shift cells up or left.
I also show you how to use the keyboard's context menu with Shift + F10 to access the delete option without using the mouse, or the Menu key (located between Right Alt and Ctrl), which has the same function. If you're using a keyboard without a Menu key, Shift + F10 is your best friend. To quickly delete rows without a dialog box, you can use the following shortcut: select the row with Shift + Space, then press Ctrl + Shift + the minus sign (Ctrl + Shift + -) and the rows will be deleted directly.
Another advanced method is to use the Alt key to access the ribbon: after selecting the row or column, press Alt + E + D and then Enter, which is a shortcut inherited from older versions of Excel. To delete multiple non-consecutive rows, select them by holding down the Ctrl key while navigating with the arrow keys and then apply any of the shortcuts above. To delete all blank rows in a sheet, select the entire sheet with Ctrl + E, then press Ctrl + G to go to Special, choose "Blank Cells," and then apply Ctrl + the minus sign to delete them all at once.
