After a violent car crash that knocked him unconscious, Harry Mason wakes up in his car seat disoriented. He glances to his right at the passenger seat and sees that his seven year old daughter is missing. He also sees that the passenger door has been left open. He panics and quickly opens the car door. As he steps out into the cold, his entire field of vision is shrouded in a thick white layer of fog. Everything around him is smothered in fog. The front end of his vehicle is completely destroyed and he notices that it is snowing out of season.
As he stumbles out into the middle of the road, he yells out the name of his daughter, Cheryl. She is nowhere to be seen. He continues walking down the street, horrified at the fact that his child is now missing. However, looming in the distance, he sees the silhouette of a little girl. He quickly hurries towards it. It's his daughter Cheryl. As he tries to catch up to her, she looks up at him and spontaneously begins to run away, disappearing into the fog once again. Puzzled, stressed and confused Harry yells out to her, "Cheryl!! Where are you going!!???"
He sees her in the distance once again and yells out to her, telling her to wait, but she ignores his pleas and continues running. With no other options, he chases her. He keeps chasing her and chasing her as her silhouette fades in and out of the white misty horizon. He chases her silhouette down an ominous back road and eventually he ends up in an alley where he completely loses sight of her.
With nowhere else to run he continues down the only possible direction she could've gone. He begins to follow the long narrow alleyway in front of him. As he walks down the winding path, he notices that it seems to be getting darker and narrower. Harry starts to hear what sounds like a siren wailing in the distance. As he continues to follow the winding path, the siren grows louder and it quickly gets darker. Suddenly it is pitch black. Harry pulls out his lighter and switches it on. It is now the only source of light he has. He notices that it isn't snowing anymore. In fact, it starts to drizzle.
The towering concrete walls beside him are illuminated by the bright orange glow of the lighter's dancing flame, but the light only goes so far before fading out into pure darkness. He looks up to see if he an get a glance at the night sky, but it is pitch black. All he sees are the two flat, orange lit walls of the alleyway fading into the abyss above him. Harry continues to walk down the dark claustrophobic path, feeling like he is going to be sandwiched between the two slabs of brick and concrete beside him. The siren continues to wail in the distance and is gradually complimented by a squeaky sound that grows louder and louder as Harry continues walking into the darkness.
Eventually, Harry reaches a corner. There is a rusty wheelchair knocked over on its side with it's wheel still spinning. When he turns the corner he sees a bloody hospital gurney with what seems to be a dead body underneath the blanket. The stench of a dead animal emanates from the sighting. Harry is horrified and his imagination begins to run rampant as he thinks about the safety of his daughter. He sees that the path continues and returns to his search.
As he continues down the dark winding path, Harry notices that the environment is gradually changing. Thick rusty pipes jut out of the walls above him. The concrete slab wall on his right becomes a rusty metal mesh, and the concrete floor beneath his feet is bathed in a thick wet layer of blood. As his journey continues, he finds himself getting lost in a nightmarish maze of rusty metal fences. The intoxicating stench of rotting flesh fills the air and the ground is decorated with chunks of meat and human body parts.
Suddenly Harry is met with the gruesome display of a dead mangled corpse strung up on the fence with barbed wire. It's intestines are hanging out, drenched in blood, freshly dripping down onto the red puddle below. As Harry stands there in shock and disbelief, his eardrums are pierced with the eerie squealing sound of a baby crying from several feet behind him. The hairs instantly stand up on the back of his neck as the squeal grows louder and closer. Harry raises his lighter and slowly turns around.
