This tireless tunnel digger

It is both male and female;
Extending, retracting to move forward,
Having neither eyes nor ears, just a mouth
Located on its second segment, I know, it's strange.
Like in our bodies, blood circulates inside.
The animal devours up to thirty times its weight
And its droppings are called worm castings.
We should take an interest in its exploits
Because it enriches and aerates the soil.
Earthworms are the intestines of the Earth.
To evoke this magnificent creature,
This indispensable, fantastic partner,
