China’s Punk Rock TV Show: A National Paradox
China has a reality show like "The Voice" or "American Idol," but instead of pop singers competing for the top prize, it's rock bands... and not just any rock bands, but genuinely weird & unique post-punk, goth, folk, glam and metal bands. In a country where entertainment is tightly controlled and "positive energy" is mandated, "The Big Band" manages to be shockingly subversive.
