White pelicans are large, graceful water birds with distinctive white feathers, long necks, and enormous bills. They are native to North America and can be found in wetlands, marshes, and lakes throughout the United States and parts of Canada. White pelicans are social creatures and often congregate in large groups during the breeding season. They are skilled swimmers and use their wings to "herd" fish into shallow water before scooping them up with their bills. Despite their size and impressive wingspan, white pelicans are surprisingly agile in flight and can often be seen soaring in formation high above the water.
