Electron configuration is the arrangement of electrons in an atom. Atoms have 7 shells: K, L, M, N, O, P, and Q.
Each shell can be filled with a maximum of electrons, according to the formula: 〖𝟐𝒏〗^𝟐
Valence electrons are the number of electrons in the outermost shell. The period is equal to the number of shells, and the group is equal to the number of valence electrons.
