We were insulating our new house and ran into a problem.
There’s a space between this joist right here and the exterior wall but no way to get insulation in there.
The insulators came up with a solution, and I made this drawing to show you what they did.
It’s a cut-through of our floor system.
We need to get insulation in this space right here, but it’s blocked off by the wall below.
The first thing the guys did was stuff insulation between the floor joist and the wall.
Next, they drilled some one-inch holes in the side of this joist.
The holes are spaced about 4 feet apart.
Then, they use the same truck that’s used to blow insulation in the attic to fill this space,
A 1” reduction nozzle was attached to their hose. The nozzle fits right into the holes drilled in the joist.
The operator has a remote on his belt that controls the truck.
A worker in the truck throws bales of cellulose insulation into the hopper.
Here you can see what the cellulose looks like.
Some builders insulate areas like this as they’re framing, but framing gets rained on and there’s nothing worse than wet insulation.
I’m happy with their solution, now we’ll have a warm floor above. ‪@hausplans‬
