Optometry falls under the umbrella of Health Sciences. It's a scientific discipline that focuses on detecting and resolving visual problems, aiming to achieve maximum visual performance with minimal eye strain.
In this video, I'll tell you the essentials about the profession of Optician-Optometrist. In this article, you'll learn what optometry is, the definition of an Optician-Optometrist, their functions, how they can help us, the degree required to become an optometrist, and the main differences between them and an ophthalmologist.
It's a self-employed, healthcare-oriented, non-medical, and independent profession that studies our complex visual system holistically to achieve effective vision. To achieve this, they draw on many areas of knowledge such as: anatomy, biology, ergonomics, pharmacology, physiology, psychology, and pathology.
An optician is a university-qualified healthcare professional, whose degree is now a four-year program, dedicated to caring for and improving, in primary care, everything related to the vision and visual health of the population.
