Born in 1280, this African monarch expanded his empire to control vast gold mines, making him the wealthiest person in history. His legendary pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 was marked by an extravagant display of wealth, distributing so much gold that it caused inflation all over the world.
During his journey, he built mosques and madrasas, promoting education and Islam. He transformed Timbuktu into a renowned center of learning and culture, attracting scholars from across the Islamic world. Known as the 'Lion of Mali,' this visionary leader was Mansa Musa.
