Saint Petersburg boat trip along the canals and rivers discovery tour
Once I traveled to St. Petersburg, and I was told that a boat trip would be useful and interesting,
you can listen to historical information, and at the same time see it all from the water.
In this video, we will take a boat ride along some rivers and canals of St. Petersburg.
The walk takes about 1.5 hours, and my ticket cost 600 rubles.
If you somehow ended up in St. Petersburg, then in any case, you should definitely take a boat ride along the canals and rivers of St. Petersburg.
It is not so expensive, but you will get a lot of impressions and positive emotions.
Now we will take a short walk along the Fontanka River, then along the Kryukov Canal, the Moika and Zimnyaya Kanavka rivers, and then we will return to the Neva.
The total length of all watercourses on the territory of St. Petersburg reaches 282 km, and their water surface is about 7% of the entire area of the city.
The Fontanka River is the largest branch of the Neva,
which flows through the entire city center.
Having a relatively small size: length - 7.5 km, width in some places up to 70 m,
Fontanka boasts super-popularity,
and once again proves that size is not the main thing.
The river begins from the Neva near the Summer Garden, and flows into the wide and full-flowing Bolshaya Neva
just north of the port and industrial Gutuevsky island.
Before 1712, a small silty, sometimes swampy and wide - up to 200 meters river
with islands and calm backwaters was called the Nameless Channel.
It acquired its modern name in 1737 with the construction of the famous fountains of the Summer Garden,
it was through its channel - on the site of the Pantelemonovsky bridge, a water conduit-aqueduct was thrown
from the abundant and clean basin of the Ligovsky Canal.
With the development of shallow waters for construction, the width of the river gradually decreased.
Until the 18th century, the Fontanka River was the border of the city in the south.
In the middle of the 18th century, the Fontanka riverbed was cleared and reinforced with a wooden embankment.
Later, the architect A.V. Kvasov prepared a project for granite embankments.
Works on straightening the riverbed, reconstruction and construction of the granite embankment of the Fontanka
came at the end of the 18th century.
Later, in the 19th and 20th centuries, there were repeated cleansings of the Fontanka riverbed,
in 1828, it was for these purposes that special dredging machines began to be used.
As a result of cleaning works, the river became navigable,
and in 1892 the first passenger steamships appeared in its waters.
Today, pleasant boat trips along the Fontanka, viewing mansions and residences on its embankment
are included in the program of many tourist trips around St. Petersburg.
During the boat trip, we passed under 30 bridges.
Of course, the impressions from such a walk are simply excellent!
Fresh air, interesting stories about St. Petersburg, and a dynamic environment
all this makes our small water trip bright and memorable.
For a short while we dissolve and plunge into the history of this beautiful city.
Zimnyaya Kanavka in St. Petersburg is a popular place for romantic dates, and the view of the Hermitage Bridge, along with the arched gallery from Millionnaya Street, is considered one of the symbols of St. Petersburg.
The time of the walk passes unnoticed, and passing through canals and rivers, we again find ourselves in the Neva River.
The main waterway of the city is the Neva River, which flows into the Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland, belonging to the Baltic Sea.
The total length of the Neva is 74 kilometers. It flows from Lake Ladoga in the area of Orekhov Island, on which the Oreshek fortress was built in 1323, later known as the Shlisselburg fortress.
