Do-it-yourself Disaster Recovery for AWS EC2
This video demonstrates the steps you can perform to create an up-to-date replica of your mission-critical EC2 instances across different geographic regions. In the unlikely but certainly possible case of an extended or permanent outage at the primary region hosting your cloud applications, you can quickly and reliably failover to your disaster recovery region.
The video starts with an overview of the steps to snapshot, copy, and attach volumes to an identical copy of a production instance; then, step-by-step instructions are demonstrated using the AWS console. Finally, suggestions for inexpensive automation are offered in case the manual procedures are too time-consuming.
