My Tesla model 3 has recently developed a locking pin problem. The locking pin suddenly stopped retracting completely preventing the full release of the charging connector. The charge port is clean and clear. The pin area in the charge port has been yearly inspected and I have used silicone spray to both lubricate and drive off any moisture. I clean the car religiously, always ensuring that I don't get water into the charge port. The "shine" that is visible in the video around the emergency pin release arm (that black arm) is me having sprayed silicone lubricant in an effort to lubricate in behind the arm itself. More curiously is the blinking red light ! WTAF is that about? I know that this module has something to do with the functions of the door release and locking pin mechanism, but why would it be blinking unless it somehow detects an issue? And if an issue is being detected by the car why didn't the tesla rep identify it when I called them? Is this a software problem where the actuator assembly or controller of the locking pin system is failing to locate the position of the pin? is this an issue with the actuator or solenoid? I mean as an engineer myself I believe that this system should be quite robust as over the life of this vehicle this component would see many many cycles. if I am not mistaken this locking pin activates each time the vehicle is locked and unlocked regardless of whether or not the charge port is being used! any ideas? comment below!
