"Brain Damage" (Pink Floyd) cover by Dennis Anthonis
"Brain Damage," by Pink Floyd's released on 1973 on their Dark Side of the Moon album. This song was entitled "Lunatic" and "Dark Side of the Moon" at one time or another before Roger Waters decided on "Brain Damage."
The impetus behind the writing of this song was the deterioration of co-founder and front man Syd Barrett, who utlimatly succumbed to schizophrenia complicated by drug abuse, particularly hallucinogens. It was then that David Gilmour joined the group.
Although Waters was important to the group in the beginning (being the co-founder with Barrett), it wasn't until Barrett's departure when Roger Waters took over and thus began the meteoric rise to megagroup superstardom. This was also about the time when Water's began his most prolific writing period, which continues today.
