The coalition agreement of the "traffic light" parties mentions a so-called equity-linked pension at the request of the FDP (Free Democratic Party) – which is to be introduced in Germany in the future. The pension system in Germany consists of three pillars: the statutory pension, which is financed on a pay-as-you-go basis, occupational pensions, and private pension schemes.
However, demographic change and the soon-to-be-retiring baby boomers are causing financing problems. The FDP's solution: a German equity-linked pension. The model for this is the Swedish equity-linked pension. The system can therefore certainly work. But there are also open questions.
