Create Project Layout - Exercise 5
I've used Sami's frame since it was at scale and easy to translate into Rhino; you can do the same if you're having trouble sizing this all out or figuring out how to export Exercise 5 drawings into a scaled layout!
If you want to start from scratch, make a rectangle 150m by 30m and build off of that.
Process - Rhino
-Scaled Sami's drawing according to the 1:500 scale bar, using 0 as my base point and 5m as my reference point. Measuring using the DI (distance) command shows I've done this correctly. Now the plan is in real units (1:1) - The width of the entire frame should be 150.00m if measured.
-Used the REC (Rectangle) command to draw the outer frame, then used X (explode) to get each side.
-Select the horizontal top line and use DIV (divide) and choose 5 segments to get the frames. Select the vertical right line and use DIV, 4 segments to get the rows across. CO (copy) the top horizontal line with point divisions down to create a guide to draw in the dividing lines for the frames and section areas of the layout.
-Use SelPT (Select Points) to select all the points and delete. Then select the whole frame and use File - Export Selected to export to scale.
Notes: The scale of the plan will dictate the rest of the frame. If you use a different scale for your plan, everything else will change also.
Scale conversions from Rhino to Illustrator:
5m = 10mm - 1:500
2.5m = 10mm - 1:250
2m = 10mm - 1:200
1m = 10mm - 1:100
.5m = 10mm - 1:50
.25m = 10mm - 1:25
Process - Illustrator:
-Open drawing and adjust artboard size to "artwork bounds"
-Leave extra space around left and bottom for annotations & labels
-Rename layer as needed & lock to prevent moving, then add new layer for annotations (ANNO)
-Using the text tool, drag a text box then create the first label. Change font & size as required.
-Unlock the frame layer and align the label and top line of the frame by using the alignment panel in the top toolbar. Make sure 'align to selection' is selected in the dropdown, then use the 'align to top' icon.
-Duplicate the layer name by pressing alt and shift and dragging the text box down to the next area on the layout. Keep duplicating & dragging.
-Duplicate and drag so that you have a title under the drawing.
-Change the size, orientation & justification of the text as desired.
-Remember to add scale annotations where you need them and a north arrow on your plan.
