Too many runners are sabotaging their training by running their easy days too hard. It feels productive in the moment, but it usually creates more fatigue, worse workouts, less consistency, and more frustration over time. In this video, I talk through why slowing down on easy days is one of the simplest ways to improve your training and why so many runners still struggle to do it.
I break down the real purpose of easy running, why more intensity is not always better, and how easy volume helps raise the floor of your fitness so your harder sessions can actually do what they are supposed to do. We also get into the psychology behind why runners resist slowing down, why “maximizing every run” often backfires, and how chasing pace on easy days can trap you in a cycle of fatigue, poor workouts, injury risk, and stalled progress.
This is also a broader conversation about sustainability. Better running is not built by trying to prove your fitness every day. It is built by stacking weeks, months, and years of training in a way your body can actually absorb.
