Difference Between Math Strategies and Math Models
I recently did some webinars where the topic of math strategies and math models (or notations) came up. I gave a quick answer but I said that I’d do a full video on it.
I’m Christina Tondevold, The Recovering Traditionalist, and today we are going to investigate The difference between Math Strategies and Math Models in our quest to Build our own Math Minds so we can Build the Math Minds of our kiddos.
When I first learned about how kids can invent their own strategies for solving math problems without the teacher first teaching it to them, I was very fortunate to have training that helped make it very clear that how a child THINKS about a problem is different than how they NOTATE their thinking. The work of Cathy Fosnot and her landscapes of learning helped me know when something is a strategy or a model. Find out what I learned in this video.
