One of the topics that was given attention at the Streaming Tech Sweden conference in June 2022 was the current state of adoption of WebRTC in broadcast streaming. For interactive user experiences sub-second latency is a hard requirement and WebRTC is the established Internet-standard for realtime video and that most Internet-devices have adopted. But why hasn't this standard been more widely adopted in the broadcast industry. Ryan Jespersen from Dolby gives an explanation for this in his talk and talked about the standardization work for WebRTC based ingest.
For WebRTC playback, Jonas Birmé from Eyevinn Technology, presented a proposal for a standard for WebRTC based playback and the proof-of-concept they have developed for a WebRTC based distribution network using a standard interface in and a standard interface out.
