The Dealians were a pop group formed in East London, South Africa, in 1968 by Mike Fuller. The group took its name from the local Deal's Hotel where they regularly performed. Being based in East London, and with most of the recording studios being in Johannesburg and Cape Town, the group struggled to be signed to a recording deal, until the East London Publicity Association contracted them to tour the major centres of South Africa to promote the city. While performing in Johannesburg, a talent scout for Gallo saw them and offered them a recording contract. I remember seeing them at the Colosseum in Cape Town in 1969 or 1970 when they came on stage before the start of the movie and performed a few songs. I specifically remember that, when they spoke about East London, they sang the lyrics “everyone knows it's windy” from the Association song “Windy”.

The original line up was:

1. Mike Fuller - guitar, vocals
2. lan McDonald - piano, organ
3. Malcolm Martin - vocals, guitar, vibes
4. Derek de Klerk - bass, vocals
5. Keith Horn – drums

Later members:

1. Len Cooper - trumpet, vocals
2. Laurene Gordon – organ, electric piano, synthesizer, vocals
3. Peter Richardson - drums
4. Mike Rome - drums
5. Gary van Zyl – bass guitar
6. Sue van Staden – organ, electric piano, synthesizer, vocals

They supported Vicky Leandros during her tour of South Africa in 1973 and were the first group to win three consecutive SARI awards for Best Beat Group (1972, 1973, 1974).

The Dealians had five South African Top 20 hits:

1. Look out here comes tomorrow – 1970, #1, 15 weeks
2. When love comes knocking – 1971, #3, 11 weeks
3. All of the time girl – 1972, #13, 6 weeks
4. Two of us – 1973, #17, 3 weeks
5. Time – 1973, #4, 15 weeks

They broke up in 1975 while still being very popular and enjoying considerable success.
