Norton Motorcycles has been acquired by Indian two-wheeler giant TVS Motor. TVS brought British brand Norton Motorcycles for Rs 153 crores thereby saving it from going bankrupt. Norton is arguably one of the most iconic British bike makers. The British brand has been on sale in India via MotoRoyale. The first Norton bikes to officially go on sale in India are the Dominator and the Commando.
On the acquisition of Norton Motorcycles, Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director, TVS Motor Company has quoted that Norton will retain its distinctive identity with dedicated and specific business plans. Before the BS6 emission norms came into effect, the Norton Commando was on sale for Rs 20.99 lakh, while the Norton Dominator carried a price tag of Rs 23.70 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom).
Filled with racing pedigree, old Norton bikes are sought by bike collectors the world over. While the old ones cost a small fortune, the bike maker does make modern-day replicas of some of their classic models. These too command quite a premium as they are completely hand built with exotic materials at the company's workshop in Donnington Hall, UK.
