We’ve got a new Commodore 64 on the way—and it’s based on FPGA technology. It’s not the first retro computer recreation to use FPGA, but with the Commodore 64 Ultimate getting closer, this is the perfect time to understand what to expect.

In this video, I compare several classic machines with what many consider the gold standard of FPGA implementations: MiSTer FPGA. We’ll talk about what FPGA really brings to the table (timing, latency, video output, sound accuracy) and where it still differs from original hardware—especially when you pair everything with a CRT TV.

A full review of the Commodore 64 Ultimate is coming to the channel soon, so stay tuned!
