From the first week of November 2004, this is KYW's first 4pm newscast with their new graphics package - the fourth(!) in under two years.
The station initially relaunched under the "CBS 3" brand in January 2003, coinciding with the arrival of Marc Howard as 11pm anchor. The graphics were a poor imitation of WBBM's, and the theme was a shallow interpretation of the longtime "KYW" signature. When that didn't take, Larry Mendte and Alycia Lane came in and the station's look morphed into something closer to WCBS, complete with their (awesome) theme music. After that, though, the station redid their graphics package twice... retaining elements of WCBS but looking more and more like another station in the Big Apple - WNBC, which had unveiled an impressive refresh in spring of 2003.
This refresh isn't just close to WNBC's look, it is WNBC's look. KYW went to Pyburn Films for the refresh. The look is the flashiest of the CBS O&Os at the time but it's not that far astray of the general "look" of the O&Os. I liked it then and I like it now.
Since their 4pm ended way early - you would not see them doing that now, they'd fill until "Dr. Phil" (and this is a moot point anyway since Dr. Phil and the news swapped timeslots), I let the recording run and switched stations. Since my editing tools were on the fritz, you get to see some WPVI from the time period. Enjoy!
