Hey guys welcome to the another episode of S Universe information and in today's video we will learn about our first planet of the solar system - mercury , so let's get started with a short intro
Mercury is the smallest and closet planet to the sun of the eight planet in solar system. But still mercury is second hottest planet in the solar system. Means the mercury is closet to the sun but it is not hottest
But why ?
Ans - mercury is the only planet that is no atmosphere and hence there is no atmosphere the heat of sun mercury Cant hold that heat and lost into the space.
Temperature
During the day the temperature of mercury reaches 430° Celsius ( 800 farhanites) and mercury has no atmosphere hence the nighttime temperature of mercury reaches -180°Celsius. Means the mercury is closet to the sun still it is -180°Celsius.
Statistics
The mass of mercury is 3 lakhs 30 thousand billion billion I said billion billion means double billion. Means around 0.055 of the earth.
The diameter of mercury is 4879 km
And the circumference of mercury is 15329 km
The volume of mercury is around 0.056 of earth. Now we will learn about moon of mercury and other things.
Moons
Mercury doesn't have moon. There is a theory of some scientists that says the moon of mercury crashed into it and because of that mercury doesn't have any moon.
Internal structure
Mercury consists of approximately 70% metallic and 30% silicate material. Mercury's density is the second highest in the solar system. Geologists estimate that it's core occupied about 42% of its volume. In addition, it's crust is believed to be 100-300 km thick.
Magnetic field and magnetosphere
Despite its small size and slow 59 day long rotation, mercury has a significant magnetic field. Like that of earth, Mercury's magnetic field is bipolar (magnetic force of equal magnitude and opposite signs). Space probes have indicated that the strength and shape of the magnetic field are stable.
Mercury's orbit and axis
The mercury take 56 days to revolve around sun and 84 days to rotate around itself
Mercury's orbit is inclined by seven degrees to the plane of earth's orbit. Its axial tilt is almost zero. At sertain points on Mercury's surface, an observer would be able to see the sun rise about half way, then reverse and set before rising again, all within the same mercurian day. To a hypothetical observer on mercury, the sun appears to move in a backward direction.
Longitude convention
The longitude convention for mercury puts the zero of its longitude at one of the two hottest points on the surface. The two hottest places on the equator are at longitudes 0° w and 180° w, and the coolest points on the equator are at longitude 90° and 270°.
