Black on Black!
With Black Walnut being as ubiquitous as it is in the woodworking world, it may come as a surprise that this is my first time ever turning it, at least on camera.

The ability to adjust bevels on my turning tools is something I had never been able to do well, but their aggressive 80 and 180 grind grinding wheels make quick work of that, and the 350 and 600 grit wheels leave a pristine finish and long-lasting edge, as long as the steel isn't overheated in the process of grinding. Oddly enough, the new 400 grit wheel for my Tormek sharpener has a much more aggressive cut than my original 250 grit diamond wheel, which means spending less time at the grinder and more time at the lathe. Works for me!

This piece of black walnut was harvested and sent to me by a viewer in Oklahoma. I had originally planned to turn the wood naturally, but when I got into it, all the voids, checks, and cracks made obvious the need for epoxy stabilization. Thanks to @TotalBoat for supplying Thickset Fathom epoxy, which turns beautifully and cures perfectly even in my cold shop during frigid winters in Maine.
