In this tutorial we'll use the features:
In SolidWorks, the Extruded Boss/Base with Draft and the Shell command are both powerful tools used for creating 3D models, particularly for molded or cast parts.
Extruded Boss/Base with Draft
The Extruded Boss/Base command is the primary tool for adding material to a part by extending a 2D sketch in a straight line. The "draft" or taper angle option within this command allows you to create a sloped or angled extrusion. A draft is a slight angle given to the vertical faces of a part to make it easier to remove from a mold during manufacturing. You can specify a positive or negative angle to control the direction of the taper.
Shell
The Shell command is a very efficient tool for hollowing out a solid model, giving it a uniform wall thickness. It removes material from the inside of the part, leaving a specified thickness of material. You can also select specific faces to remove, which creates an opening in the hollowed-out part. This command is often used after a part has been created with a draft, as it's the final step in preparing a design for injection molding or casting.
