A fake photo, likely generated by artificial intelligence, of an explosion near the Pentagon spread viral across Twitter on Monday, and stocks dropped.
The incident confirmed what we have said for months: ai tools are going to make it easier for misinformation to spread.
False reports of the explosion also made their way through numerous accounts with blue check marks, including one that falsely claimed it was associated with #bloombergnews.
Under owner #elonmusk, anyone can now purchase a verified Twitter account for a monthly fee.
Becouse of this Twitter verification is no longer an indicator of an account's authenticicy.
