SBS Singapore First Public Driverless Buses Are Coming In 2026! Will You Take It?
Singapore is making a bold leap into the future of public transport. Starting in the second half of 2026, six fully driverless electric buses will hit the roads on Service 191 (one-north) and Service 400 (Marina Bay), marking a major milestone in autonomous mobility.
🚌 Backed by an $8.1 million pilot program from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), this initiative brings together MKX Technologies, Beijing’s Zhidao Network Technology, and BYD Singapore to test how autonomous buses can safely and efficiently serve real-world commuters.
Key highlights of the trial:
Fully autonomous electric buses with 16-passenger capacity
Wheelchair-accessible, stroller-friendly, with priority seating
Operates alongside existing buses for a hybrid fleet model
Trained safety operators on board during early phase, moving to remote monitoring
Huawei high-speed EV chargers to power the fleet
Services run through landmarks like Gardens by the Bay, Buona Vista MRT, and Marina Bay Cruise Centre
Fares same as regular buses
The 3-year pilot aims to improve connectivity, tackle manpower challenges, and lay the groundwork for a larger rollout — potentially expanding to 20 autonomous buses on more routes islandwide.
👷♂️ Plus, Singapore’s workforce is being prepared: bus drivers will be trained for new AV roles, and new training programs are on the way for fleet managers, technicians, and customer service officers.
🚀 Singapore is on track to deploy 100–150 self-driving vehicles by 2026 — creating a more flexible, inclusive, and sustainable transport network.
