How to glue tiles to a wooden floor - I'll show you in the video.
The subfloor is prepared for laying tiles. To prevent the tiles from warping during use, they are installed over boards or sheets used to level the floor joists. Materials that can be used for this purpose include:
Moisture-resistant drywall
gypsum fiberboard;
cement-bonded particle boards;
moisture-resistant plywood.
All of these types are installed in one or two layers. The boards can be fastened with screws, but the spacing between the fasteners should be small, otherwise the flooring will "move" when walked on. To strengthen the subfloor, it is recommended to treat the end grain using a special adhesive designed for the material.
If the wood flooring is being installed in a bathroom, kitchen, or other room with regularly high humidity and a high risk of contact with water, the joints between the boards are covered with a polymer membrane-type waterproofing. It's important to protect the corner areas where the wall meets the floor. Here, the waterproofing is applied with a slight overlap (up to 5 cm) onto the wall.
Preparing the wooden floor for tiling is done before installing the tiling. A primer is used for this. The resulting coating is then treated with it. Next, a painter's mesh is laid. It is recommended to apply a second primer on top. This will improve the adhesion of the adhesive to the subfloor. It's important to lay the subfloor slabs so that the joint is centered on the wooden crossbar (joist).
Cement-bonded particle boards should be laid over the drywall/plywood. They are the main structural element of a floor installed using dry-leveling technology. This is due to the sufficient strength and durability of these products. During the subfloor installation, its surface quality is constantly checked using a level. Tiling should not be done on an uneven floor.
Advantages of this method:
An insulating layer can be added to the subfloor;
The light weight of the floor reduces the load on the joists;
It's quick to install, as it eliminates the need to work with a cement screed.
This method also has its disadvantages. For example, installing a multi-layer floor structure, which is also elevated on joists, will reduce the ceiling height. Therefore, dry leveling is not suitable for all projects.
