Can I Put 2 Hotspots In 1 Location?
It's a common mistake people new to Helium make. Putting 2 Hotspots in 1 location does NOT provide better Network coverage. Yes, other YouTubers are showing you how to do it to earn more HNT. Technically, that's stealing. If you have 2 hotspots hooked up to 1 antenna solely in order to "get more tickets to the raffle", every time your second hotspot wins that extra ticket you are stealing that chance from another hotspot that's actually providing coverage.
I made this video initially because I'd just finished up with a consulting client who had too many hotspots and not enough locations. Before we talked, they figured that Helium was probably like Bitcoin; you can "stack" miners to earn more. That's not how Helium works. We found great new locations, and they're going to deploy them in order to earn more AND build a better Network.
I didn't expect to get a ton of comments along the lines of "Yes you can, and this other guy is doing it and earning a huge amount."
Now, can you cheat the system and earn more? Yes, of course you can. Did your mother raise you to be a thief? Hopefully not.
I've heard all the arguments about, "But what about if I have 2 antennas providing better coverage on 2 sides of a building, or 2 different antenna gains (dBi) to provide fuller coverage?" That's BS and shows you don't understand how LoRa and Helium work. This is NOT amateur radio. This is NOT military radio. This is NOT even regular LoRa radio, because there's a density/token element.
One low gain antenna running LoRa between 868-923 (which is where pretty much all of 'em are) can provide coverage for THOUSANDS of meters all around. You do NOT need 2 antennas to provide "extra" coverage. A low gain (3 dBi) antenna has a range of 200 km plus when it comes to beacons & witnesses.
I get that you want more HNT. We all do. It's just a question of what you're willing to do to get it.
