Samsung Top Load Washer 8C Error Code Fix
Samsung washer model number: WA48J7770AW/A2 (the issue is not limited to this specific model number)

Symptoms *:
1) At the very beginning of the wash cycle, the machine would fill with water, then it would immediately drain (it never agitated).
2) Occasionally, the machine would stop, sound an alert and return an 8C code.
3) The machine would not complete spin cycles.
4) When attempting to spin, the machine would start spinning but would return a Ur code. A Google search told me the Ur code means “unbalanced and retrying.” When functioning properly and the machine encounters this error, the machine fills the tub with water, agitates for a while to redistribute the weight, then tries to spin again.
Note - The machine would occasionally work properly when we first started experiencing the problems. As time went on, it became worse and worse until it would no longer complete a full wash cycle. I know now that the more cycles it went through, the more separation was created in the wire break. Since there are 6 conductors in that jacket, I also assume that you might experience different symptoms depending on which wire(s) is/are broken.

My repair steps:
I want to credit Mitch Crompton ( • Samsung washer fix ) and Jason Moore ( • Samsung washer fix ) for posting their videos. They were more help to me than Samsung or any of the repairmen that I contacted. After watching Mitch’s video, I disconnected the cable from the control board and from the sensor. I left the wire in place and verified I had continuity on all 6 conductors, so I assumed that was not my problem. I bought a new MEMS sensor, part number DC93-00278B, (from Walmart of all places) for $30.00. It was not a lot of money so I thought I would try it (it did not fix the problem). I then found Jason’s video. Once he showed how his wire had continuity that was coming and going, I decided to remove the wire and give it a more thorough look. That was when I found my problem. It was in a different place than Jason’s but it was similar in that sometimes it was making contact and sometimes it wasn’t. I spliced the wire back together, taped it up and put everything back together. It has been working flawlessly ever since.

If you are not comfortable resplicing the wire, you can buy a new wiring harness. However, the bad thing is that I was not able to find the wire for the MEMS sensor by itself. The only thing I could find is the entire wiring harness which has all the connectors for all the electronics. If that’s the way you want to go, it looks like the part number for my machine’s model number is DC93-00579B.
