Quick ways to create floor plans using an IPad

One of the most time-consuming parts of the initial design process is floor planning. If you are still using a measuring tape and graph paper, there is a better way- using your iPad!

Here are 3 different apps that you can use for floor planning. They work in slightly different ways, so I suggest you check them out to find out which works for you.

➕ Room sketcher app

This app is so easy to pick up and use to create 2D floor plans. Just use your finger or pencil to create walls, doors and windows. You can adjust the size by just entering in the dimensions.

➕ Magicplan

With MagicPlan you can use the Lidar scanner built in to the iPad to create a floor plan for your room. It will even include furniture in your plan. It is extremely accurate.

➕ Canvas

Not to be confused with Canva. With this app, you use your camera to scan your space. You then send the scan via the app to Canvas where they will create an accurate 3D model that you can use in your BIM software. This saves you hours drawing up your model in SketchUp. It can seem expensive- a 3d model of a 1800 sf location costs around USD250 but this would have taken me around 5 hours to draw up, so it is well worth it.

Of course you could use SketchUp onsite, but these apps are easier to use and don’t have much of a learning curve. #interiordesignbusinesstips
