PEM - Privacy Enhanced Mail
PPK - Putty Private Key
While creating EC2 instance , key pair is must in AWS. without this key one cannot login into the instance. This key can be downloaded only once. So this should be kept in safely.
AWS and Linux prefer PEM file format, But PuTTY and WinSCP accept PPK file format.
So conversion of this file format can be done using PuTTY gen software. This comes along with PuTTY software packages.
