We've all be taught to lag the club. Instead release it to shallow your approach angle and you'll hit better shots.
To make it clear to my students I have them hit long putts first then we graduate to chips with an 8 iron. Then I will have them incrementally hit it further and further trying to continue shallowing the club through the golf ball.
I spent my whole life lagging the club and was a great low ball hitter but struggled hitting it higher and hitting pitches using the bounce of the wedge. At 60 I finally got it and now I'm hitting those shots better and so are my students. So release the club and see what happens!
Thanks for watching! Kris
