Service Dog Alerts to Seizure and gets emergency meds
Colt was in a dead sleep on the floor woke up and started his usual staring at me to determine if he needs to alert or not, I grabbed my phone to record while ignoring him so he became more persistent in alerting and I didn't acknowledge him so he had to keep alerting on camera until I did acknowledge the alert. He paws at me to alert, and then gets on top of me to tell me to stay down so I don't get up fall and hit my head when the seizure happens. I always ask him to get me my emergency meds and pillows (to make it more comfortable and safe during the seizure) so because a pillow was on the floor he went to bring it to me but I redirected him to the meds which he needs to get first, me shaking my open hand is the hand signal for meds, because of my TBI (Traumatic brain injury) sometimes I can't communicate properly to say the command meds or anything at all so he is trained in different hand signals with every command. He went and got them off the counter in the kitchen and brought them to me, then I asked for the pillow, he brought it and then asked him to get up and do DPT (deep pressure therapy) while I was taking my emergency Seizure Med. Like many times, this time I didn't have a seizure because of Colt's alert, he alerts me far enough in advance normally that meds can work. He was such a good boy to wake up from a dead sleep, like he always does and I feel bad to interrupt in a way sometimes but he always is so happy to work, groggy but happy lol I'm so thankful for Colt, he saves my life everyday. My seizures have been pretty bad since my emergency brain surgery, he has been alerting all night and I am even more thankful for Colt and how hard he is working. He takes such good care of me.
