Using musical phrasing to add expression and variation to dance
An extract from a musicality lesson at Tango UK Bramshaw which explored using phrases in Argentine tango music. Using a "treasure map" the animation connects a visual journey to accompany the musical phrasing. Without guidance and inspiration like this, most dancers default to dancing simply on the beat. But the beat is a constant feature in this and all other tango music and dancing only on the beat will creative repetitive and uninspired dancing. Dancing the phrases introduces moments of pause and add understanding and expression to dance movement.
